Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has expressed his gratitude to Sri Lanka for its humanitarian intervention in rescuing the Iranian crew of the warship ‘IRIS Dena’, which was sunk following an American attack.

During a telephone conversation with the Sri Lankan Foreign Minister, Araghchi stated that he highly appreciates the steps taken by Sri Lanka to provide the distressed sailors with the necessary medical treatment and protection.

The ‘IRIS Dena’ was sunk in international waters 19 nautical miles off the port city of Galle last Wednesday following an American attack.

Describing the incident as a serious violation of international law, the Iranian Foreign Minister also reiterated the importance of ensuring the safety of ships and their crews in international waters.

Sri Lanka’s neutral and humanitarian approach during the crisis has been appreciated by the international community and has further strengthened diplomatic relations between the two countries.
