Namal Rajapaksa has expressed his appreciation for President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s decision to permit the Iranian vessel IRIS Bushier to enter Sri Lankan waters and dock at the Trincomalee port. Measures have also been taken to facilitate the transfer of its 208 crew members to Colombo on humanitarian grounds.
In a message shared on social media platform X, Rajapaksa highlighted that the move underscores the importance of Sri Lanka maintaining a neutral stance amid ongoing regional conflicts.
He emphasized that it is crucial for Sri Lanka to uphold its obligations under international law while providing humanitarian assistance whenever necessary.
Rajapaksa also voiced hope that the Sri Lankan government will continue fostering dialogue among all parties involved in the conflict, aiming to sustain peace and stability both in the Gulf region and globally.
Furthermore, he stressed the importance of the government working closely with regional partners, including India, to ensure maritime safety and security in the Indian Ocean.
