Deputy Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Ratna Gamage stated that he is unable to express a direct opinion at this stage regarding the satyagraha launched by the Madal fishermen.
The Deputy Minister made this remark while addressing a media briefing held today (09).
He explained that the fishermen have filed a case in court challenging a decision taken by the ministry, and therefore a definite opinion cannot be expressed until the 27th.
Addressing the issue, he said, “We are ready to discuss matters properly and guide you in the right direction. We do not provide answers to incorrect approaches, which is why we reject them outright. At this moment, we cannot express a direct opinion. Since you have gone to court and a case has been filed, we are unable to give a definite response until the 27th. After the case and once a verdict is delivered, we are ready to hold discussions. Following those discussions, we are prepared to take future action to protect both the environment and your interests.
