Two generators currently undergoing renovation at the Lakvijaya Coal-Fired Power Plant in Norochcholai are scheduled to be reconnected to the national grid on January 14 and January 18, respectively.
The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) announced this in an official statement.
According to the statement, all necessary arrangements have been finalized to connect Generator No. 2 ‘B’ to the national grid on January 14, 2026. The CEB noted that maintenance work on the generator is now in its final stages and that it will be synchronized with the national grid following the completion of the required quality tests.
Meanwhile, Generator No. 1 was safely shut down on December 20, 2025, due to a sudden fault in its boiler. The CEB stated that repair work is currently underway to rectify the issue and that the generator is expected to be restored and reconnected to the national grid by approximately January 18, 2026.
The Ceylon Electricity Board further emphasized that these developments will not disrupt the continuous supply of electricity.
