In recent days, due to the severe rainfall and the resulting flood conditions, hundreds of people lost their lives. Priceless state and private property was destroyed. The cause of all this was the sudden and violent cyclone that swept across Sri Lanka. We have often heard various predictions made through the media about such natural disasters. However, it was through the Vishwa Karma YouTube channel that we learned about a Buddhist monk who made an accurate prediction that Sri Lanka would face such a severe natural catastrophe shortly before the beginning of the year 2026.
Issuing a special message through that YouTube channel, Venerable Heenatigala Indrawansha Thero made this prediction. We present below several excerpts from his statement for our readers. What is particularly significant is that this prediction was included in a video recorded in the year 2023.
Invoking the blessings of the Noble Triple Gem, we address you once again today to inform you of a special spiritual revelation, a universal spiritual message. Through the power obtained from higher universal spiritual energies and through meditative strength, we wish to clearly convey a matter that has been revealed to us.
We have repeatedly explained and emphasized that this is a period of cleansing of great sins, a time of transition into a spiritual era, and a phase of spiritual evolution taking place on this Earth. We have stressed again and again that air, land, water, and nature in particular will undergo intense disturbances—subjected to purification and transformation. This is a time when the fearsome and destructive power of nature will visibly manifest before humanity’s very eyes.
Over the next two years, severe disturbances and catastrophic events related to the earth are expected to occur. Following that, major and deadly disasters related to water are also inevitable. This wave—this phase—will come to an end with the beginning of 2026. We interpret the year 2026 as the starting year of this spiritual evolution, the beginning of a spiritual century. Therefore, this is an undeniable truth.
In particular, Indian geological researchers have reported that within a very short period of time, a significant seismic event on the Richter scale is likely to occur in the Himalayan region, with a possibility of aftershocks extending as far as Sri Lanka.
As a result, many people are destined to suffer immense hardship and tragedy. Many will lose their lives, and extensive damage to property will occur. Changes taking place deep within the earth will emerge to the surface in the form of tremors and transformations, delivering a powerful message to humanity. These events will silently urge people to change their way of life and turn toward a spiritual path. Even the earth itself will tremble, visibly conveying this message before people’s own eyes.
The coming year will be extremely decisive for Sri Lanka, as many such catastrophic events are likely to occur within the country. Sri Lanka’s survival, if it occurs, will be due solely to the protection of the Buddha Sasana—the pure teachings of the Buddha.
Especially during this period, we also witness another remarkable vision. A significant change is observed in the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi. Regardless of what botanists or other scientists may say, the sacred Bodhi Tree silently declares the sign of a great impending disaster. This can be understood only by those who walk the noble spiritual path, those attuned to spiritual rhythms. The Bodhi Tree signals that the coming year and the future period are extremely critical. It urges people to quickly recognize the true essence of the Buddha’s word, the true value of the Noble Dhamma, and the true worth of the Noble Sangha, and to enter the path of pure Buddhist practice.
The changes occurring in its leaves and branches are not due to any ordinary reason. The Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi is a sign from nature itself, indicating that a great destruction is destined to occur in the coming period.
A major earthquake in the Himalayan region is absolutely inevitable. After that, a period of great water-related disasters will follow. Once all of this comes to an end, nature will truly create a purified environment within the Buddha Sasana of Gautama Buddha. The blessed and pure Noble Dhamma of the Fully Enlightened Arahant Gautama Buddha will once again be nurtured in a clear and pristine form to support the path to Nibbāna. This will be the final golden gateway to liberation in the Buddha Sasana.
That Himalayan earthquake is certain to occur, and it may even exceed current estimates by several decimal points—possibly reaching a magnitude of 8.5 or even 9. With the great earthquake in the Himalayan region of India, many catastrophic events are bound to occur. We earnestly pray and resolve that such devastation in northern India may not come to pass.
Regardless of what anyone says in the future, Sri Lanka will enter an era marked by various major disasters and unexpected changes. It will be a time when unimaginable calamities will be faced, with changes occurring in different regions.
Do not go to the Ruwanwelisaya merely to light oil lamps with foolish wishes such as passing examinations. Do not engage in meaningless acts like rolling on the ground in worship. That is sheer foolishness. Instead, go there, attain a sense of calm concentration, and reflect wisely on the path to liberation with proper attention (yoniso manasikāra). That alone becomes true merit.
“Dhammo have rakkhati dhammacārī” — the Dhamma protects the one who lives according to the Dhamma. That alone is the true protection and refuge. It is the only real security one can have in one’s future existence and in one’s life.
Therefore, we advise you to urgently adopt a disciplined and principled life in order to protect yourselves from these disasters. Immediately turn toward a vegetarian lifestyle. Release compassion, loving-kindness, and mercy toward all living beings from your heart. Express your compassion and loving-kindness toward this universe and toward nature through your practical daily life. With the wish that you yourself may be well and that others too may be well, transform your life into one guided by loving-kindness. That alone is the true protection that exists.
