The Rebuilding Sri Lanka program—launched to restore the country following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditva—has received Rs. 1,893 million in financial assistance from local and overseas Sri Lankans, as well as various institutions, according to Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.

A discussion was held under the chairmanship of the Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka, with the participation of the heads of all insurance institutions, to formulate a program to provide compensation for businesses and properties damaged by the cyclone, the Secretary said.

During the meeting, it was revealed that all insurance companies have already initiated a system to provide immediate compensation for businesses, properties, and lives affected by the disaster.

Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma further stated that representatives of the insurance companies confirmed that necessary steps have already been taken to provide immediate compensation for minor property damage under this program. Compensation for major property damage will be issued after the required information is collected, and until then, a portion of the compensation will be provided promptly.
