Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Germany to Sri Lanka, Dr. Felix Neumann, at the Opposition Leader’s Office in Colombo today to discuss providing relief for those affected by Cyclone Ditva.
During the meeting, both sides highlighted several economic, social, and environmental challenges arising from the current disaster situation. Opposition Leader Premadasa respectfully requested that the German government provide the maximum possible assistance to Sri Lanka, not only to address the immediate impacts of the disaster but also to manage the post-disaster recovery and ongoing pandemic-related challenges.
Furthermore, he sought support to ensure the proper functioning of essential services and hospital operations, as well as the restoration of the collapsed railway and highway transport systems. He emphasized the need for a special contribution from the German government specifically to restore railway services.
