Parliamentarian Ramanathan Archuna announced that he will travel to Geneva next week to lodge a complaint with the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) against Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne and Leader of the House Bimal Ratnayake, over what he described as an injustice suffered in Parliament.
Archuna stated that from March 19 to May 9, a period of nearly one and a half months, he was denied the opportunity to speak in Parliament. He emphasized that his complaint to the UNHRC is being made in relation to this matter.
He further claimed that the Speaker withheld his speaking rights in response to a complaint made by Minister Bimal Ratnayake. Archuna added that he has also referred the matter as a question of privilege to the Privileges Committee.
