During the long weekend holiday on the 6th, when large numbers of tourists arrived in Nuwara Eliya, residents and visitors were faced with a major inconvenience as the city’s water supply turned dark brown and muddy. The issue caused significant difficulties for the local community, business owners, the hotel industry, and tourists alike.
According to residents, the problem persisted throughout the day on the 6th, and by the morning of the 7th there was still no water of acceptable quality for drinking.
When contacted about the matter, the Chairman of the Water Industry Committee of the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council, Municipal Councilor Mahes Ratnasekera, explained that the situation arose due to repair work on a defect in a main water pipeline on the 6th. He assured that steps are being taken to resolve the issue and provide updates as soon as possible.
