The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has ordered that former State Minister Shashindra Rajapaksa, who is currently in custody on corruption charges, be further remanded until the 29th.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanka Bodaragama issued the order after considering submissions made by officials of the Bribery Commission as well as the defense counsel.
Rajapaksa was arrested by the Bribery Commission and remanded on allegations of corruption under the Anti-Corruption Act. He is accused of illegally obtaining Rs. 8,850,000/- as compensation for the destruction of his political office, which had been constructed on Mahaweli land and later damaged by protesters.
