Tensions flared during youth association elections held in several districts, as newly appointed officers and attending ministers faced strong opposition from segments of the youth population.
Multiple such incidents were reported today. According to newly elected officers, much of the resistance came from former office-bearers who are reportedly disgruntled over losing their positions.
One notable event took place during the establishment of the Gampaha District Youth Association. The ceremony, held at a hotel in the Gampaha area, was conducted under the patronage of Deputy Minister Eranga Gunasekara.
During the event, a young woman openly objected to remarks made by the Deputy Minister, highlighting the level of dissent and discontent present at the proceedings.
