Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekara has alleged that a sitting Member of Parliament representing the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and his wife received a total of Rs. 3 million from the President’s Fund.
According to MP Jayasekara, the funds were disbursed during the period between 2004 and 2008. He claims that Rs. 1 million was allocated to the JVP MP himself, while an additional Rs. 2 million was granted to the MP’s wife.
Jayasekara further asserts that the current government has selectively disclosed a list of MPs who benefitted from the President’s Fund, deliberately omitting names affiliated with their own party members who also received financial assistance.
He added that while the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has already recorded statements regarding the Rs. 5 million paid from the President’s Fund by then-President Maithripala Sirisena to cover his hospital expenses, the JVP has failed to reveal the funds received by its own members.
