Former Member of Parliament Udaya Gammanpila has claimed that a group of officials involved in the unauthorized release of 323 containers from the Colombo Port, bypassing customs inspection, are now preparing to flee the country.
According to Gammanpila, the officials have allegedly made plans to escape to Belgium and Australia. In response, he intends to request the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to impose a travel ban on those individuals.
Gammanpila made these remarks this morning after appearing before the CID in Colombo.
He was summoned to the CID today for questioning in connection with a previous statement he made regarding a consignment of sorghum that was reportedly released without undergoing customs inspection.
