It has been officially decided that the 2025 Poson Festival will be held in Mihintale with full sponsorship from the government.
The Chief Incumbent of the Mihintale Rajamaha Viharaya, Venerable Walawahangunawewe Dhammarathana Thero, extended his gratitude to the government for this decision. He made these remarks during a discussion held at the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs regarding the organization of the 2025 State Poson Festival.
The theme of this year’s National Poson Festival is “May the world be enlightened by the teachings of the Buddha.”
It is noteworthy that during the past two years, former President Ranil Wickremesinghe did not extend state sponsorship for the Poson Festival. However, under the leadership of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the government has now reinstated full state sponsorship for this significant religious and cultural event.
