The Kurunduwatta Police report that an Army Brigadier has been arrested in connection with an incident in which he entered the SSC Stadium in Colombo dressed in military uniform and assaulted two private security personnel.
The suspect was taken into custody after surrendering to the police through his lawyer.
The incident occurred during preparations for a one-day cricket match between D.S. Senanayake College and Mahanama College, scheduled to be held at the SSC Stadium on May 18. Police investigations have revealed that the Brigadier, an alumnus of Mahanama College, arrived at the stadium the previous night (May 17), bringing certain items with him.
According to police, the Brigadier instructed a security officer from a private company to allow his vehicle inside the stadium and to operate the elevator to transport the goods upstairs. When the officer informed him that the keys were unavailable, the Brigadier became agitated and reportedly assaulted the officer, striking him on the ear and face.
Another security officer who intervened to assist his colleague was also allegedly assaulted in a similar manner. Both security personnel, who are residents of Moratuwa and Galle, were admitted to the Colombo National Hospital for treatment.
It has been confirmed that the suspected Brigadier currently serves as the head of a military detachment based in the Battaramulla area.
Following his arrest, the Brigadier was released on police bail, and the case has been referred to the Mediation Board, according to a senior police official.
The investigation is being carried out under the supervision of Chief Inspector Aloka Bandara Senanayake, Officer-in-Charge of the Cinnamon Gardens Police Station.
