The government has launched a pilot project aimed at addressing the widespread crop damage caused by monkeys by relocating them to designated islands.
According to Member of Parliament Thushari Jayaratne, the monkeys will be released onto islands within the Randenigala and Victoria reservoirs.
She further noted that measures such as spaying and neutering will be implemented as part of efforts to control the monkey population.
MP Jayaratne added that the project is expected to expand to other regions in the future.
