The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government has taken steps to address the Local Government Election process.
The Election Commission confirmed that the Cabinet’s decision to cancel the nominations for the Local Government Election has been submitted for consideration.
Chairman of the Election Commission, Mr. R.M.A.L. Ratnayake, stated that the election date would be announced once the necessary amendments to the Local Government Election Act are finalized. He assured that the announcement would follow promptly after the required arrangements are completed.
Meanwhile, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, during a recent visit to Kandy, affirmed that measures are underway to conduct the Local Government Election before the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
