Over 7,000 traffic officers have been deployed as part of a special operation to ensure road safety during the festive season, according to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Buddhika Manatunga, the Police Media Spokesperson.

This operation, which will run 24 hours a day, aims to monitor and prevent traffic violations. The public has also been encouraged to contribute by reporting instances of reckless or unlawful driving.

The police have provided multiple avenues for reporting such incidents. Citizens can call the short numbers 119 and 1997 to report traffic violations, including careless or dangerous driving, particularly by buses. Additionally, complaints can be directed to the mobile phone number of the Divisional Officer in Charge of the respective Police Division.

For those who have visual evidence of traffic offenses, such as videos, the police have facilitated reporting through WhatsApp.

This initiative underscores the commitment of law enforcement authorities to maintaining road safety and minimizing accidents during the festive season.
