Toyota Lanka has successfully brought in its first batch of vehicles after the government initiated a phased relaxation of vehicle import restrictions.
The initial relaxation focuses on vehicles intended for the tourism sector, marking a significant step in the gradual reopening of vehicle imports.
The previous government had imposed stringent import restrictions due to a sharp decline in foreign exchange reserves amid an economic crisis. These measures aimed to curb foreign currency outflows and stabilize the economy.
With a steady recovery in the country’s economy and an increase in foreign exchange reserves, the current administration has opted to ease restrictions in stages. The first phase prioritized the tourism industry, allowing the import of vehicles essential for its growth.
In line with this policy shift, Toyota Lanka has imported its first batch of vehicles, symbolizing the reopening of opportunities within the automotive sector.
