President Anura Kumara Dissanayake extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Chinese government for its unwavering support in Sri Lanka’s debt restructuring program and the provision of financial assistance during the ongoing economic crisis.
The President expressed these sentiments during a meeting with Qin Boyong, Vice Chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), held at the Parliament Complex today.
Vice Chairwoman Qin Boyong reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening the long-standing relationship between the two nations and expressed her desire to work closely with Sri Lanka’s new administration.
President Dissanayake also thanked China for its contributions during disaster relief efforts and the provision of school uniforms for Sri Lankan children. Highlighting future priorities, he underscored the importance of China’s continued support, particularly in completing the halted Chinese section of the Central Expressway. Additionally, the President emphasized the need to expedite key projects such as the logistics center and institutional developments associated with the Colombo Port City and the Hambantota District.
In response, Vice Chairwoman Qin Boyong expressed optimism about advancing these initiatives, including the resumption of halted marine research activities. She also highlighted plans to attract Chinese companies to the Hambantota Investment Zone, enhancing Sri Lanka’s global connectivity.
The Vice Chairwoman further noted that preparations are underway to welcome President Dissanayake on an official visit to China in the near future.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Overseas Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath, Deputy Speaker Dr. Rizvi Sally, and Ma Youxiang, a member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, among other dignitaries.
