Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, a Member of Parliament representing the National People’s Power Party, has been elected as the new Speaker of the 10th Parliament during the parliamentary session held today (17).
The nomination for Dr. Wickramaratne was proposed by Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya and seconded by the Leader of the House, Bimal Ratnayake.
The Speaker’s position became vacant following the resignation of Mr. Ashoka Rangwala, who previously held the role in the 10th Parliament.
