Supply Officer Files Rs. 500 Lakh Lawsuit Over Assault, Defamation, and Illegal Suspension
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

A compensation case demanding Rs. 500 lakh has been filed by S.A. Abeysiri, a Supply Officer at the Eppawala Phosphate Company, alleging assault, threats, and defamatory statements made against him. The incident reportedly occurred during an inspection visit to the company’s premises on July 17, 2023, involving an employee closely associated with a Minister.

Abeysiri claims that during the inspection, he was subjected to public humiliation through defamatory statements and false accusations, which were later widely publicized via print, audio-visual, and social media platforms. He has also accused the Minister of illegally suspending him from his position following the incident.

The compensation case, filed at the Attanagalla District Court, outlines the damage caused to Abeysiri’s reputation and professional standing due to the alleged assault, threats, and the dissemination of false information before employees and officers of the institution.

The court has scheduled the case for Friday (29), with former State Minister of Primary Industries, Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, reportedly represented by his legal team.

During the hearing, the Attanagalla District Judge directed the respondent parties to file their replies by January 15, 2025, and to appear before the court on that date.
