The Ministry of Finance has announced a significant reduction in the commodity tax on imported large onions, aiming to balance the interests of local farmers and consumers.

Under this decision, the tax on one kilogram of imported large onions has been reduced from Rs. 30 to Rs. 10.

This move is part of a short-term strategy by the government to provide relief to consumers while safeguarding the livelihoods of local farmers by ensuring fair market prices.

The Ministry confirmed that the reduced tax rate will remain in effect until December 31. Further actions will be determined based on future policy decisions and implemented in accordance with relevant legal frameworks.
