According to the latest data report released by the World Food Program, four out of every five families in Sri Lanka are in the habit of skipping meals or reducing the amount of food they eat.
According to the report, 6.3 million Sri Lankans are suffering from food insecurity and 21.35 million dollars have still been received from the 63 million US dollars needed to support 3.4 million Sri Lankans from July to December.
The report issued by the World Food Program stated that Sri Lankans are still suffering from the economic crisis in Sri Lanka and the prices of essential goods in Colombo and its surrounding areas are still high.
According to the Colombo Consumer Price Index, the inflation which was 60.8 percent in July has risen to 64.3 percent in August.
The World Food Program report indicated that there is a fear that food security in Sri Lanka will worsen due to this.
According to the report, the fuel shortage in Sri Lanka has disrupted the supply chain in the domestic market and has put pressure on the prices of local goods in the market.
