Half Day seminar on “Kaizen” by the National Chamber

The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) has scheduled another capacity building session titled “Implementing a Kaizen programme in your organization” on Tuesday, November 05, 2024, from 09:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the National Chamber Auditorium. The seminar will provide sufficient information on Kaizen and the Kaizen Suggestion Scheme to enable participants to implement a Kaizen programme immediately. Sunil G Wijesinha the resource person is a well-recognised promoter of Japanese Techniques and Productivity, and acknowledged as the pioneer who implemented many Japanese Techniques in Sri Lanka from as far back as 1980. He has followed many training programs in Japan. He is a past president of the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka, Japan Sri Lanka Technical & Cultural Association (JASTECA) and a past Chairman of JASTECA Trust. He has held many top positions in the Government and private sector where he practiced what he learned in Japan. He received the APO Regional Award for promoting productivity in the Asia Pacific region in 2005. Last year the Government of Japan conferred on him the “Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays” for promoting relations between Japan and Sri Lanka by promoting Japanese management techniques in Sri Lanka.

During the workshop, there will be several elements discussed focusing on implementing and managing a successful Kaizen program. Kaizen is about creating a culture of continual improvement that steadily delivers results. Modern Kaizen consists of Top down Kaizen techniques, bottom up Kaizen techniques, special Kaizen events, and Kaizen Blitz programmes. Implementing a Kaizen programme improves the organisational culture, improves worker engagement and results in better quality improved delivery time, reduces cost, enhances productivity, creates a safer working environment and makes the working place happier for the employees.

The Japanese concept of Kaizen became popular world-wide after the 1986 publication of the famous book “Kaizen: The key to Japan’s Competitive Success” by Masaaki Imai. He followed it with “Gemba Kaizen” published in 1997

Modern Kaizen programmes use the traditional philosophy but have more activities to suit modern times and the modern worker. The seminar will include guidance on creating an appropriate culture in the organisation, and using the full potential of the modern more educated worker. Kaizen is applicable in factories, offices, construction sites, healthcare facilities, educational establishments and even in the military.

Key topics such as, Basics of Kaizen and its philosophy, the corporate culture required, success factors of Kaizen, creating a Kaizen culture, difference with innovation, three pillars for sustenance, creating the problem conscious culture, kaizen blitz, kaizen suggestion scheme and its structure and processwill be covered.

The seminar is suitable for CEOs, senior management, Department Heads, HR professionals, and middle management who would be able to formulate and implement a Kaizen programme. The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka invites interested participants to register for this insightful session.
