A ceremony was held at Temple Trees in Colombo to mark the 150th anniversary of World Post Day, with Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya presiding over the event, joined by Minister Vijitha Herath.
To commemorate this milestone, the Department of Posts issued two special stamps featuring portraits of Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya and Minister Vijitha Herath.
During the event, Minister Vijitha Herath announced that all previous decisions regarding the Nuwara Eliya Post Office building have been put on hold. He emphasized that the historic building will now be dedicated solely to postal services, reversing the previous government’s plans to hand it over to the private sector for conversion into a hotel.
