Chief Sanghanayake of the Colombo New Korala and Chief Incumbent of the Gangaramaya Temple Ven. Galaboda Gnanissara Thero has passed away, aged 81 years.
He was suffering from illness for some time and passed away today while receiving treatment at a private hospital.
Galaboda Gnanissara Thero was born in 1943 in the village of Galboda in the Matara Municipal Council and was ordained on November 8, 1954.
At the age of 16, he was asked to take over the administration of the temple, and since then has initiated several community service projects in Sri Lanka.
The community services are primarily in fields of vocational education, homeless shelters for children & elderly people, sanitation, and cleanliness.
