Mr. WPC Wickramaratne said that the Government Auditor General’s Department has not yet taken necessary actions regarding nearly one lakh recommendations made to prevent corruption, fraud and irregularities in government institutions. Sri Lanka Latest News
He pointed out that non-implementation of the recommendations given by the Auditor General’s Department is a serious problem and new laws should be brought to implement the recommendations given by the Department.
It is said that the amount spent annually by the government for conducting audit investigations is in crores.
Mr. Wickramaratne also stated that every government institution is bound to implement the recommendations given by the Auditor General’s Department.
Some institutions do not implement the decisions taken on behalf of the management or the recommendations given by the Auditor General’s Department. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the Committee on Government Accounts and the Committee on Finance to implement the recommendations given by the Auditor General’s Department in relation to government institutions,” said the Auditor General of the Government.
Meanwhile, the officials of the Auditor General’s Department point out that some heads of institutions are undermining the recommendations of the Auditor General.
