Government Media Reports Numerous Police Officers Absconding Overseas Without Notice – Sri Lanka Latest News
According to a report published in today’s (18th) Dinamina newspaper, a significant number of individuals have departed the country without prior notification while on official police duty.
The report highlights a series of incidents, commencing with the simultaneous disappearance of officers from the Police Sports Division who were scheduled to attend an International Police Union conference.
Among the cases cited, a police inspector stationed at Narahenpita Police has been absent from duty since February 3rd, with records indicating departure from the country on February 13th. Similarly, the police inspector from Teldeniya Police departed during the same period.
Further instances include a constable from Homagama Police taking unauthorized leave on November 15, 2023, to travel abroad. Additionally, the Station Commander of the Badulla Division Crime Scene Investigation Laboratory (SOCO) has left the country, prompting the suspension of duties effective from the 14th.
Moreover, a police inspector from the Colombo Crime Division traveled to France for a trip, subsequently seeking asylum on grounds of alleged threats by criminal elements.
