Provincial Governors and Cabinet Ministers receive nominations for National Awards, and on the recommendations of the Selection Committee to award National Awards to Sri Lankans and non-Sri Lankans who have rendered outstanding service to Sri Lanka, headed by the Prime Minister’s Secretary, appointed by the President. It is reported that proposals have been made to prepare a new system for inviting applications from eligible Sri Lankans who are expected to be admitted.
Accordingly, the award winners will be selected by a selection committee consisting of academic members appointed by the President’s Secretary, with the approval of the President.
The names of the selected awardees will be published in a gazette, and the awards will be presented under the chairmanship of the President on a date to be decided.
The President can decide the days suitable for the awarding of awards, including Independence Day, and National Hero’s Day, and national awards are also given to non-Sri Lankans.
