More than 35,000 people died and another 5,000 people went missing in the tsunami disaster that occurred on December 26, 2004.
December 26, when the Tsunami disaster occurred, is commemorated as a national celebration and has been declared by the government as National Safety Day since 2012.
Accordingly, this year the National Safe Day is going to be held across the island focusing on all the districts of the island and the main celebration is going to be held in front of the Peraliya Tsunami Memorial.
A two-minute silence will be observed from 9.25 am to 9.27 am to remember the people who died in the tsunami and other calamities.
