Due to the torrential rain in Wellawaya area since yesterday (24) afternoon, about fifty houses in Wellawaya area have been flooded due to the overflow of Kiridi Oya. (Sri Lanka Latest News)
Houses in Wellawaya, Nugayaya and Buduruwagala areas were submerged in water and due to this, the goods in the houses also suffered heavy damage.
A car parked in a nearby house was also swept away by the current of Kiridi Oya.
Mr. Ravindra Kumara, Assistant Director of Monaragala District Disaster Management Unit stated that the flood has almost completely receded and measures are being taken to provide immediate relief to the affected people.
