The Public Utilities Commission has informed the Ceylon Electricity Board that the data presented in relation to the request made by the Ceylon Electricity Board to increase the electricity tariffs is not in line with the current situation. Sri Lanka Latest News

That is by sending a letter to the General Manager of Ceylon Electricity Board.

In the relevant letter, the Commission requests the Electricity Board to submit the latest data of the Board before October 18.

The Public Utilities Commission stated that the data mentioned in the request sent to them by the Ceylon Electricity Board on September 4th and 26th, requesting an increase in electricity tariffs, is not in line with the present.

The Public Utilities Commission points out that although the daily electricity demand in September was forecast at 44.7 gigawatt hours, the actual daily electricity demand was 41.01 gigawatt hours.

Meanwhile, the commission said that the hydropower generation capacity has also increased more than the amount specified by the Electricity Board.

The Public Utilities Commission is also of the opinion that the prediction made by the Electricity Board regarding the generation of electricity using coal is inconsistent.

In these circumstances, the Public Utilities Commission has sent a letter to the General Manager of the Electricity Board asking them to submit the latest data for consideration of the revision of electricity tariffs requested.
