Sports and Irrigation Minister Roshan Ranasinghe is responsible for the non-participation of the Secretary and director General of the Ministry of Agriculture in the water management committee meeting held yesterday (26) at the Agriculture Department Communication Center in Gannoru to take the final decision to release water according to the 2023 cropping plan. Emphasizing that it is a tragedy that responsible officers miss a nationally important meeting held twice a year, the minister pointed out that unity should exist not only in the cabinet but also in the civil servant community.
However, Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera had also informed that he could not attend this meeting due to urgent duty.
The Minister also explained the practical crisis of implementing decisions without the Director General of Agricultural Services and the District Governors, although representatives of farmers’ organizations representing all the districts including Hambantota, Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura, Ampara, Nuwara Eliya, Vavuniya participated in the meeting.
Minister Roshn Ranasinghe contacted the Minister of Agriculture to get answers to the questions raised by him.
Meanwhile, the farmers’ representatives were also seen expressing their strong displeasure regarding surfing the internet without paying attention to the work while the discussion was going on.
