A Batticaloa district official of the Ministry of Health stated that the decision was taken due to non-payment of food suppliers.
The related official mentioned that the related money is available for payment for several months for those suppliers.
When asked about it, a senior official in charge of the Eastern Province of the Ministry of Health stated that tenders have been given for supplying food to hospitals in the Batticaloa district at high prices.
He also stated that the supply of food has been stopped due to the inability to pay the tendered suppliers.
