All arrangements have been made to hold an international conference on environmental sustainability today (25) at the University of Peradeniya campus under the theme “Exploration of Environmental Management for Sustainability in the Face of Climate Change”. Sri Lanka Latest News
With the aim of sharing the latest scientific knowledge in the field of environmental science among researchers, scholars and policy makers, the biennial international conference launched by the Peradeniya University Environmental Sustainability Center will be held this year, i.e. for the third time in 2023.
Peradeniya University Environmental Sustainability Center (Center for Environmental Sustainability) can be introduced as one of the most active institutions of the University of Peradeniya, which is always present and performs outstanding service in establishing environmental sustainability.
Senior Professor Chandana Udawatta, the Vice Chairman of the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka will be the chief guest of this conference, and Mr. Engineer Samantha Kumarasena, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Cleaner Production Center, will be the keynote speaker.
The main objectives of the conference are to provide a platform to achieve environmental sustainability by proposing solutions to environmental problems and climate change based challenges through research, innovation, dialogue and practice.
Accordingly, about one hundred research abstracts from all over Sri Lanka have been submitted for this conference, and some of the best research abstracts are to be selected.
The conference is a platform for researchers and scholars in various fields of environmental science to present their research findings, participate in scholarly discussions and propose new solutions to efficiently manage the environment to achieve environmental sustainability. Moreover, environmental policy makers including universities, various research institutes, public and private sector organizations and industries are scheduled to join the event. The opening ceremony of this conference or a keynote address will also be held on that day in the university premises.
This international conference will be an intellectual support to improve the environmental awareness among the public by solving the major problems faced by the world in a sustainable manner due to climate change based on human activities, overexploitation of natural resources, environmental pollution, poor waste management and lack of environmental awareness among the public.
