A meeting between the opposition leader Sajith Premadasa and Japanese Foreign Minister Mr. Hayashin Yoshimasa was held in Colombo today (29) afternoon.Sri Lanka Latest News
In this meeting, the attention of the two parties was drawn to the friendly diplomatic relationship between Japan and Sri Lanka that started in the past and the assistance given by Japan to the Republic of Sri Lanka and its people under the (JAICA) and (JBIC) loan assistance schemes. The leader of the opposition expressed his gratitude to the Japanese government as well as its citizens for the valuable national resources received from Japan including the corporation. Also, the opposition leader, who expressed his regret over the controversial situation caused by the suspension of the Light Rail Project (LRT) by narrow political decisions, emphasized that he is looking forward to join hands with Japan to re-implement the project under his government.
And in this meeting, opposition leader Mr. Sajith Premadasa, who praised the positive approach of Japan’s education structure, told the Japanese Foreign Minister that he highly admires the discipline, dedication, diligence and honesty of the Japanese people and is committed to making the necessary qualitative changes to equip the Sri Lankan nation with such qualities. And that he will focus under his government.
Further, the leader of the opposition asked the Japanese foreign minister to provide the Japanese technology needed to develop the fishing industry, which currently contributes only to a small amount of 1.4% of the country’s gross national product. The Leader of the Opposition pointed out his vision and need to properly contribute to the country’s economy with the marine resources spread around the island over an area of 200 nautical miles located in the EEZ Special Economic Zone.
Also, since the information technology (IT) revolution is limited to the city only, Mr. Sajith Premadasa pointed out that the children of the village still do not have the inheritance of that technology, and asked the Japanese foreign minister to help provide the necessary technical facilities to the talented people of the village to advance in the world of technology.
Further, in front of the Japanese foreign minister, the leader of the opposition demanded that the government and the people of Sri Lanka be given all possible support to recover the country from the abyss it has fallen into.
