The Financial and Commercial Crime Investigation Division has revealed that the Kurunegala-based financial institution Eon Lanka Investment has defrauded about 8,000 doctors and retired security personnel to the tune of 990 crore rupees. Sri Lanka Latest News
According to the police, the owner has fled the area.
The relevant division which started the investigation into the incident has revealed that many doctors and retired army soldiers have been caught in this racket.
Also, the investigation has revealed that the amount defrauded by the concerned financial company is about 990 crore rupees.
The company in question has given 6 percent interest per month at the beginning and then defaulted on giving the interest money.
By now it has been banned by the Central Bank and then its director has fled the area, the police said.
When the depositors went to the concerned person’s house to inquire about it, the depositors said that his bodyguards there threatened them.
Another retired army soldier has worked as its manager and investigations are also underway in his regard.
Also, during the investigation, the police have discovered that the director of the company has bought luxury houses and lands in many areas including the Kurunegala lake circle with the money deposited by the depositors.
Accordingly, it is reported that the investigating officers have now obtained a foreign travel ban for him by the court.
