Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella says that the cause of death of the 21-year-old girl who died suddenly while being admitted to the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital for treatment of a stomach ailment was an allergy and there was no problem with the vaccine given to her. (Sri Lanka Latest News)
But her parents yesterday alleged that the death was due to an injection given to their daughter at the hospital.
In an inquiry regarding this allegation made by the parents, the minister said that the girl in question was given the antibiotic Ceftriaxone.
But the minister further stated that it has been confirmed that she did not die due to a problem with the antibiotic.
However, Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena stated that a special investigation has been initiated regarding the deaths that occurred in the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital and the Children’s Hospital in the past period.
The director general also said that a committee made up of specialist doctors will go to the respective hospitals tomorrow to investigate this.
