According to the Association of Government Medical Officers, 23 of the 30 specialists who worked in the emergency units of government hospitals have left the country. (Sri Lanka Latest News)

Apart from this, five out of the 29 neurologists have left the country by now, said Dr. Darshana Sirisena, the president of the association.

The expert points out that out of the 8 experts who came to Sri Lanka after completing their training abroad, only two have stayed in this country and the remaining five have left the country by now, and it is not surprising that this will turn into a great tragedy in the next few years.

However, it takes about 7 years to produce a general doctor, and it takes about 10 years to produce a specialist doctor, which is the main reason for this problem.

He further pointed out that it is not surprising that doctors have left the country due to reasons such as not being paid proper salaries and lack of official housing, and that there is no proper program in the Ministry of Health to retain them in this country.
