Parliament will hold a debate on the removal of protesters from the Colombo Galle Face “Gota Go gama” protest site on Wednesday (27).
The chief organizer of the opposition. MP Lakshman Kiriella, asked Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena the day before (23) to convene Parliament today (25) to discuss the matter.
It would be difficult to summon MPs to Parliament today due to the fuel shortage. Instead, when Parliament meets on Wednesday to pass the emergency law gazette notification, the government intends to discuss the same issue.
Prior to this, the Committee on Parliamentary Affairs had decided to issue a gazette notification of the emergency law on the following day’s Parliamentary meeting.
The chief organizer of the opposition, Lakshman Kiriella, stated that it is critical to have a dialogue about it because beating and kicking out activists is illegal and undemocratic.
