Accordingly, the resolution received 122 votes in favor and 62 votes against.
The peculiarity of this was that despite the amendments passed by the Finance Committee of the Parliament, the proposal passed by the Cabinet was passed in the Parliament.
It states ‘In accordance with the decision of the Council of Ministers dated 28 June 2023, to ensure the sustainability of the domestic debt of the Republic, to ensure the rapid transition to economic recovery focused on sustainable economic growth that will benefit the people of Sri Lanka and future generations, and to optimize the domestic debt of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. This Parliament passes resolutions to give all necessary permissions to the Minister of Finance, Economic Stabilization and National Policy.
The relevant proposal was submitted to the Parliament by the Minister Susil Premajayant, Leader of the House.
