The Sarvajana Balaya Party is reportedly preparing to nominate its leader, businessman Dilith Jayaweera, for the national list seat it secured in this year’s parliamentary election.
The party’s executive committee has unanimously decided to offer Jayaweera the opportunity to represent the parliament as a national list member.
In the 2024 general election, Sarvajana Balaya garnered 178,006 votes, securing only one national list seat.
Despite this success, Dilith Jayaweera faced a significant defeat in the Gampaha district, where he was unable to secure a seat. In the 2024 presidential election, Jayaweera received 122,096 votes, finishing in 6th place.
Notably, Jayaweera’s defeat in Gampaha is seen as surprising, considering the extensive propaganda campaign he launched using his own media network, including Derana TV, radio channels, and newspapers.
Amid these developments, Jayaweera is now reportedly preparing to take on the leadership of the opposition, marking a new chapter in his political journey. The Sarvajana Balaya Party has made a special announcement, bidding a “happy retirement” to opposition leader Sajith Premadasa.
