President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced today (20th) that the Local Government elections are scheduled to take place before the Sinhala and Tamil New Year in 2025, with the Provincial Council elections set to follow later in the year. This significant declaration was made during the President’s visit to Kandy.
As part of his visit, President Dissanayake engaged with the Chief Prelates of the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters to seek their blessings. At the Malwathu Maha Viharaya, he held discussions with the Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thero. During the meeting, the President briefed the Chief Prelate on the nation’s current political climate and shared insights from his recent visit to India. The monks chanted Seth Pirith and bestowed their blessings upon him.
The President subsequently visited the Asgiri Maha Viharaya, where he met with the Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thero. The Chief Prelate also extended his blessings to President Dissanayake, further symbolizing the importance of the occasion.
