Gayan de Mel, son of Sirinal de Mel, clarified that MP Marikkar did not have any secret discussions with the President during his father’s funeral. He further clarified that the rumors being spread by the JVP, portraying the event as a secret discussion, are completely false. He added that this misinformation is embarrassing for Anura Kumara Dissanayake as well. Gayan de Mel described these kinds of incidents as political tactics of playing both sides. Sirinal de Mel was a senior leader who served in the UNP’s trade union affairs for over 60 years.
