The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has ordered the release on bail of Yoshitha Rajapaksa, son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).

Colombo Additional Magistrate Lahiru Silva issued the order after considering submissions made by officers of the Bribery Commission and counsel representing the suspect.

The Magistrate directed that Yoshitha Rajapaksa be released on three surety bails of Rs. 5 million each. The court also imposed a travel ban, preventing him from leaving the country.

Yoshitha Rajapaksa appeared before the Bribery Commission today (17) in response to a notice issued in connection with an investigation into his involvement with the Sri Lanka Navy and the British Naval Academy. Following questioning by Commission officers, he was taken into custody.
