Former Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena Indicted Over Alleged Rs. 1 Million Bribery Case

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has filed an indictment before the Colombo High Court against former minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena on charges of allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 1 million (10 lakhs) from a businessman in exchange for facilitating a matter related to the Board of Investment (BOI).

According to the indictment, the alleged bribe was received by the former minister in 2013.

The case was filed following a lengthy investigation conducted by the Bribery Commission based on a complaint lodged by the businessman concerned.
