The Association of Government Medical Officers says that due to the drought that has affected the island, there is a risk of spreading diseases such as diarrhea and dysentery due to the contamination of water sources. Its assistant secretary Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe said that this situation can be avoided by drinking boiled water.
“With this dry season, the supply of water is becoming a serious problem for the people due to the drying up of normal water sources. This situation is becoming a serious situation especially when going to rural areas and remote areas. Due to the drying up of the wells, tube wells, etc., it has become very difficult for the people to find drinking water.
So they try to get water from available water sources. There is a possibility that there are some impurities and germs in those water sources. Therefore, when these people use water from these water sources in the future, there is a risk of developing diseases such as diarrhea and dysentery. We request the people if you have any doubt that the water source you are drinking is not clean, at least boil the water and drink it,” says Dr. Chamil Wijesinghe.
