Jaffna DIG Manjula Senarath has informed all the police stations on the 24th to get the phone numbers of the students and parents of all girls’ colleges in Jaffna and immediately create WhatsApp groups for those schools. (Sri Lanka Latest News)
The notification has been sent to the education authorities and principals in Jaffna.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police has taken this decision after many incidents of injustice and rudeness that have happened to the students of several girls’ schools in Jaffna by outsiders.
The DIG has informed that these WhatsApp groups should be managed by the teachers in charge of the classes, and the police stations belonging to the respective girls’ schools should constantly maintain contact with the schools and WhatsApp groups and deal with the safety of the female students.
According to this method, all the police stations have been informed to pay attention to how the female students of Jaffna’s schools come to the school and note down the details of the drivers who bring the female students.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police has indicated that information should be recorded if female students do not come to school and if they are late to go home after school.
