Mr. Sagara Kariyawasam, Secretary General of Pohottuwa said that Pohottuwa has a good plan to win the election and will present it to the country in the future.
He stated this while attending the news conference held at the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna party headquarters.
Mr. Sagara Kariyawasam, Member of Parliament, further said,
“ So far, false scapegoats have been created in connection with the provincial elections. It was said earlier that nominations will not be called for this election. After we called for the nominations, we took the necessary steps. As a party, we tied up all those pledges and nomination arrangements and we were the only ones who did it properly at the right time. Everyone said they were lying. But in the last moment everyone has to submit nominations. Now the leaders of Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna and Samagi Janabalawegaya are saying that they are working to protect this election.
The last good governance government in which Mr. Sajith Premadasa and Mr. Anura Kumara Dissanayake were involved postponed the local government polls to be held in 2016 until 2018. We won the 2018 local government polls by filing a case against that government in the Supreme Court. And we know that provincial council elections have been abolished in this country. Rural hospitals, schools, everything is done through provincial councils.
It has been forgotten today that Anura Kumara and Sajith Premadasa Mahatala prevented the people of this country to appoint people’s representatives for these provincial councils. The people who destroyed the voting rights of the people of this country, the people who destroyed the democratic rights of the people of this country have now come before the people without any shame and are motivated to talk about the voting rights of the people.
I would like to remind them that even then, the Rajapaksas and we of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna stood for the people’s right to vote. It is valid then, today and tomorrow. We are not a party that abrogates the democratic rights of the people of this country and try to stay in power. We have strong faith in the people. Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna will definitely win the upcoming local government elections. We deal with the trust in that regard. Therefore, we would like to say to the leaders who falsely claim to vote for the people’s right to vote, when you point out one finger; make sure that the remaining four fingers are turned towards you. It was you and no one else who took away the voting rights of the people of this country. Pohottuwa has never done such a thing. It will not happen in the future. Therefore, we will contest this poll without fear. We are having a great victory. It is said here that the people are well-wished for that.”
